GuM

Wildlife Collection
Bucharest

GuM was commissioned to deliver the interpretation, internal fit-out, and exhibition design for a private museum in Romania. The museum spans two floors and is specifically designed to showcase a private wildlife collection. This unique assortment includes wild animals, trophies, hunting weapons, as well as themed decorations and furniture.

The envisioned exhibition is set to feature contemporary dioramas, digital interactives, and immersive landscape ambiances, providing visitors with a captivating and engaging experience within the museum space.

Ground Floor

On the ground floor the visitor enters into an Animal Promenade, preparing the visitor for the Wildlife Experience which lies ahead. After arrival the visitor enters the large central hub of the ground floor, which presents itself as The Forest. From the Forest, where there is a themed café immersed in silver birch trees and taxidermy forest animals displayed in showcases, the visitor can self-navigate around the galleries, choosing to enter one of the immersive Biological Realm Zones, of the themed ‘Chambers’. These spaces focus on environments, species, conservation as well as featuring an Animal and Environment in Focus. Although there is a designed visitor route, galleries can be explored on an ad-hoc basis, with visitors entering from either direction. The visitor makes their own decision about how to explore the galleries following forest signs to guide them in their choice.

First Floor

On the first floor the central space is integrated with the surrounding galleries, so in this area, the visitor makes a visual choice about which gallery to look at first, like choosing your favourite chocolate from a box. The visitor uses the central space to circulate around the chocolate box, dipping into various flavours, but again uses the concept of returning to the hub, as in The Forest on the ground floor. A gaming hub will be created on the first floor, containing a host of different digital games, all based around the animal kingdom. Developing a gaming hub on the first floor will ensure that the first floor is always visited, never forgotten, and will be busy and full of life at all times.
